‘Lost Days’ Publisher’s Review

We were enamored with this confident depiction of the Civil War in Barcelona in 1937, especially for the gloom and uncertainty that surrounds the period. The protagonist, George Olivella, arrives in Barcelona looking for signs of his friends and family, under the darkness of a city shrouded in war and misery. Despite the destitution, George’s life begins to find purpose and a sense of identity which makes him a fantastically resonant protagonist. We wish to articulate praise for your ability to create an atmosphere that is both extensive and modest, as you manage to absorb readers in the sights and sounds of Barcelona across several periods in time. The portrayal of George’s life is captured with an honest representation of a man looking to find purpose amid troubling times. Furthermore, George’s eagerness to reflect and impart his experiences and wisdom onto Rafael in later life echoes a profound passing of the torch moment. Above all, ‘Lost Days’ conveys the poignant desire to tell stories that in of itself has echoed across the ages. The story provides an archetypal historical fiction novel that will capture the hearts of readers. The characters are depicted through distinctive dialogue that allows their thoughts and emotions to evoke a powerful resonance with rich consistency. The book is very well-structured, allowing the story to build progressively and leaving the reader satisfied with a rewarding and resolute conclusion. The prose style is engaging and well-suited for the genre, demonstrating a keen awareness of the intended market. ‘Lost Days’ displays convincing execution that is consistent with previously established themes; however, the narrative and the characters in particular are distinctive and compelling. Overall the book is highly engrossing.
